Old Billy

Age – 62 Years

Old Billy was born in 1760 in Woolston, Lancashire, England, and is considered to be the oldest horse in the world. Old Billy was owned by Mersey and Irwell Navigation and worked his life as a barge horse, pulling barges from coast to canal. The Old Billy’s cause of death is not clearly mentioned on any site. Old Billy was probably owned by a navigation company.

Age – 51 Years

Although there are some horses that are supposedly older than the badger, it is officially listed as the oldest horse breed in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records. He died in 2004 and spent his last days at the Veteran Horse Society in Wales, founded by Julian Aston. According to Badger’s records, he was born in Wales sometime in 1953 and was first owned by a Welsh riding instructor.

An Irish Draught with some Thoroughbred in his ancestry, Shayne oldest horse was born in 1962. Shayne received media attention before his death in 2012 after the owners of the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in Essex considered submitting Shane to the Guinness Book of World Records. Shayne was brought to the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in 2007.

Bob Mann’s horse Magic was registered as the oldest Arabian horse in America and died in San Diego. Magic was born in Oregon in 1969, but has lived most of her life in Southern California and has had 7 falls over the years. Magic was in good shape just 3 days before her death and had been out on a 1 and 1/2 hour trail ride just over a month earlier.

Orchid is one of the female oldest horses in history, in late 2015 when she passed away. The neglected and abused broodmare lived out the rest of her life in peace at the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary. She was rescued a year before her death, and the sanctuary staff enjoyed her last days as she recovered. Unfortunately, the Orchid could not recover from the colic episode and die.

Prospect Point is considered to be the oldest horse race in the world on record won several championships. His records were well kept and his life can be traced back to his birth. He was born Lloyd I. Miller in 1978 in Forest Retreat Farms, Kentucky. Prospect Point had a good pedigree and was sired by First Don, a unique minor stallion bred by the great Ogden Phipps.

Chief, a resident of the Pine Mountain Gold Museum for nearly 10 years, recently passed away in early October 2018 and holds the title of the world’s oldest horse. According to Chief’s owner Carla Smothers, Chief was first rescued from starvation in 2008 by Darlene Atkins. He lived a long, full, and happy life on the museum grounds.
